The Healthy Stars Program was
started in 1998 by the DDBSA to encourage breeders to health screen their
breeding dogs prior to being bred. The Stars is a way to reward the owners by
recognition. The Program has grown in leaps and bounds. It is for the future of
the breed.

Stars. If a Star is listed somewhere that is not listed on this site, please

Not all Dogues de Bordeaux on this list
are owned by current DDBSA members.
Only DDBSA members may receive stars on their dogs, but when they are no longer
members, their dogs will still retain their Stars.
To indicate who is a current DDBSA member, they will be noted by being a larger
and bolder text.

Stars Requirement Notification - Effective June 1, 2003
Effective June 1, 2003: To receive a Star for the
Penn Hip method of hip screening, dogs must be 24
months or older on day of screening. Dogs screened prior to 24 months before
June 1 that meet the requirements to receive a Star, will receive their
certification once the proper documentation is submitted. Dogs that have
received Stars for the PH method prior to this date and are under 24 months at
time of screening will retain their certification.
Effective April 1, 2011 in order to receive a Healthy Star your dogue must have a Verified Permanent Identification. This can be either a microchip or a tattoo. Dogs with a verified permanent identification are assigned a VPI suffix from OFA when given their OFA number and certificate. For eye certification there will be no suffix present after the eye certification number.
Effective April 1, 2011 no Healthy Stars will be issued unless these requirements are met.
~ REQUIREMENTS ~
Hip Stars: OFA certified hip score (Excellent, Good or Fair) or a
PennHip score (over 24 months as of 6/1/03) which
ranks in the top 25% of the breed without DJD.
**Please note the PH percentiles recalculate and can
change bi-annually as more DDB are added to their database.
Cardiac Stars: OFA certification. Only passing exams by certified
Cardiologists will be given a Star.
Elbow Stars: OFA certification
Patella Stars: OFA Certification
Shoulder Stars: OFA Certification
Thyroid Stars: OFA Certification (good for 2 years from date of testing)
CERF Stars: CERF Certification (good for 2 years from date of testing)
VonWillibrand Stars: Lab Report
